Radhamohan is generally known for his sentiment films. This time, he has diverted his attention from sentiment to comedy track having north Chennai beach location as a base. The name of the film is ‘Uppukaruvaadu’.
Karunakaran is an inauspicious director with 2 unaccomplished films in his career and trying for next one to be success. He settles with Kasimedu businessman M.S.Baskar for his next chance to direct a movie through the help of manager Mayilsamy. M.S.Baskar agrees to produce a film in the direction of Karunakaran with the demand of making his daughter Nandhida as heroine.
Karunakaran develops his story in Kasimedu itself with the help of his friends Narayanan, Saams and assistant director ‘doubt’ Senthil. He does rehearsal with amateur Nandhidha and the hero who had already selected by him.
He tolerates few or more infantile activities during the rehearsal process and fixes the date for shooting. On the day of shooting, hero disappears without any information, leaves the shooting team abandoned. Meanwhile, producer M.S.Baskar and his men arrive that spot and assault the shooting team without uttering anything and keep them in a locked room.
Why the shooting was stopped? What happened to the hero? Which is hidden behind the rage of M.S.Baskar? What about Karunakaran? – There is twist climax waiting for you….!
Karunakaran does not disappoint us in giving equal opportunities to all characters. Hero Karunakaran has exhibited his acting talent well in different dimensions. Nanndhida has entered the next stage in her evolution. She earns heavy applause in theatre. She contributes well in the comedy core of the film. We should appreciate her benevolence for her acceptance in climax scene.
The film hero Gautam, selected by Karunakaranresembles Karthik. Karunakaran’s lover ‘Saravanan Meenakshi’ Rashitha is ok.
M.S.Baskar rarely gets superb roles to prove his talent. He plays his part to boost the film’s dimension. His performance backs film well and making it enjoyable. Other characters like Mayilsamy, Kumaravel, Dadi Saravanan, ‘doubt’ Senthil and Marimuthu have made no mistake. The debut music director Steev Waats’s work not impresses us well. Camera man Magesh Muthusamy demonstrates us the unknown beauty of Kasimedu.
Through this film, Radhamohan teaches us that how some producers devastate the life of directors and their own money by introducing their heirs as hero or heroine. Hence, so many films having acted by new faces meet failure.
Despite, Radhamohan makes some logical flaws in the scenes of ‘doubt’ Senthil comey and some immature activities of Nandhida, he makes audience delight and joyful with his fantastic comedy track.
