Rummy Movie Review

Vijay Sethupathi – this was a more than enough factor to be a crowd puller and the exotic posters and a hit song ‘Koodamela Kooda Vachu’ by D Imman was a fantastic element to take us to theatres. But what happens at the end of show is a cramp on our expectations. A film of 2hrs 24mins without any drama, takes away your patience instantly after 30 minutes after the title credits.
The film is produced by J Satish Kumar and is directed by Balakrishnan with Inigo Prabhakaran, Vijay Sethupathi, Gayathri and Ishwarya Rajesh in lead roles. D Imman has scored music to the film.

Set in Sivagangai around the year 1987, the film is about two friends Inigo Prabhakaran and Vijay Sethupathi who fall in love. While the former falls in love with Gayathri of Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom, the latter becomes acquainted with Ishwarya. When the heads of these girls come to know about their relationship, they decide to spoil the game.

There is nothing for Vijay Sethupathi fans here. He plays an extended cameo and there is nothing you can expect from him. Inigo Prabhakaran lacks maturity in performance. Gayathri looks cute and beautiful, but there is nothing much to perform here. Ishwarya looks hopeless in the movie and the sequences involving her and Vijay Sethupathi are not substantive.

Apart from the song ‘Koodamela Kooda Vachu’, nothing impresses you, but Imman deserves special mention for his background score. The cinematography looks little amateur in places, but holds nothing substantial. The backdrops are so dull and it looks like a desolated village. There are proper properties used in the film.

The first half is so irksome and as we await the second half to be racier, it turns out to be more disappointing.

On the whole, ‘Rummy’ is such a below average film that doesn’t impress the audience to any extent. Producer JSK shouldn’t promoted the film bearing Vijay Sethupathi in mind. It might fetch good collections for the film, but turns out to be a disappointing for his fans.

Verdict: Loose script and poor writing
