Pattaya Kelappanum Pandiya Movie – Review

478

The storyline of Pattaya Kelappanum Pandiya is so simple. It is about a bus driver Vel Pandian (Viddarth) and conductor Muthupandian (Soori). Kanmani (Manisha Yadav) is a nurse commuting to her hospital through this bus and Vel falls in love with her. She doesn’t want to accept his love and finally, Vel decides to take this forward as a disciplined marriage proposal to the elders in her family. But when he reaches to her place, it is revealed that the elder sister of Kanmani is blind and that girl he is in love wants to dedicate her complete life for the sake of her sister. Feeling that if her sister gets a good life partner, his life would be settled as well.

When it comes to casting, SP Rajkumar has done a neat job by placing the good characterisation and roping in actors who can do justice to the roles. Viddarth doesn’t strain himself a lot, but gains our attention with the characterisation of Vel Pandi. Soori becomes the parallel protagonist in this film and he keeps on tickling our funny bones with his hilarious therapy. Even where the screenplay gets down the pace and starts to bore you, Soori becomes the absolute saviour and tries to keep them enlivened. Manisha Yadav appears in homely looks throughout the film, but sets up her glamorous realms in the songs. Ilavarasu and Kovai Sarala have done their parts well in adding up to the humour and Imman Annachi has some laughter riot in the drama.

When it comes to flip side, there are too many slow moments in the film, which sends us restless and impatient. Director SP Rajakumar should have crafted more engaging script to keep us all engrossed throughout the film. Only 30-40 minutes of the film has the exactness of what is required to this script and rest of dull.

The songs aren’t so much appreciable and only the visuals in few places deserve appreciation.

Pattaya Kelappanum Pandiya might not be an extraordinary treat to audience or a box office winner, but this is a film that should have been made before two decades. But then, it might hit the attraction of few from sub-urban areas. But compared to the previous film of SP Rajakumar titled ‘Sura’ starring Vijay, this one deserves half a mark more than it.

Verdict: Average entertainer.
