THAARAI THAPPATTAI – REVIEW

This film depicts the miserable life of Karakattam artists.

Sasikumar is the son of Karakattam musician G.M.Kumar. Sasikumar runs a karakattam troup under his leadership by brushing aside the valueless suggestions of his father. Varalakshmi, one of the members of his troupe deeply loves Sasikumar. But, ironically, she gets married to Suresh by her mother with the consent of Sasikumar as Suresh divulges his love on Varalakshmi.

Later, Sasikumar forgets Varalakshmi and leads a Karakattam troupe without her in a deplorable situation. After few months of the marriage of Varalakshmi, her mother shocks others that there is no information about Varalakshmi. While searching out for Varalakshmi, Sasikumar comes across about another side of Suresh (Varalakshmi’s husband). At the same time, the menace also follows Sasikumar. What happened ultimately? – That is pitiable climax…!

It is an old type of story…Despite, Sasikumar worked hard to prove himself, Varalakshmi simply overtakes him. She has usedthis good opportunity to her level best.

New Villain R.K.Suresh (producer of this film) scores pass mark. G.M.Kumar also proves his talent well. Every member of the Karakattam troupe is drawing our attention.

Though Illaiyaraja’s music is effectively adaptable to this film, the songs fail to capture our attention. Camera man Chezhiyan’s work is acceptable. It is one of the Bala’s regular story lines which will depict the lamentable life condition of downtrodden.

He once again has proved that he will never come out of that tradition. But, ineffective story, spiritless screen play and unattractive scenes are making this film sober.
