PULI – REVIEW

407

For the first time, Vijay has entered in to ‘comics’ area which is usually being admired by children.

Vijay is an orphan boy, brought up by Prabhu after he recovered Vijay as child in river. Vijay falls in love with Shruthi Hasan who was his childhood friend. By facing many more harassments from the inhabitants of vedhala ulagam, the village has been disastrous for a long time. Sudeep is the army general of vedhala ulagam which is now witnessing the despotic rule as its queen Srideviis now under the controlof Sudeepafter he made the queen as puppetby using magical power like hypnotism.

When the absence of Vijay in village, the soldiers of vedhala ulagam enter the village and Killing Prabhu following with abduction of Shruthi Hasan. To free her lover, Vijay enters in to vedhala ulagam by using some magical powers and successfully managed to persuade Sridevi and Suddep to believe Vijay as their citizen.

Later, Vijay realizes the truth that he is an indigenous man and also the prince of vedhala ulagam. His father and mother had been assassinated by Sudeep as he has the deep appetite to rule the country. We could know that whether Vijay was able to defeat the Sudeep or overcame by him only in the climax.

No one will hesitate to say that this film is total change over for Vijay though he did not desert her old style of mannerism as well as punches in a new dimension. He shows varieties in this film such as sword fighting, encounter with panther and dance with dwarfs. It is double treat for fans while seeing the father role of Vijay.

Shruthi Hasan and Hanshika were not exceeded their limit and performed their roles perfectly as lovers. It is shocking and fearful to see make-up and close up view of Sridevi. If the story was much cohesive to villain Sudeep, his role might have been more effective.

When Prabhu loses a hand for his village people he earns our sympathy lot. It is excited to watch the suspense entry of another Vijay and his wife Nandhitha attracts us much within a minutes even her role has been assigned to short span of time. Thambi Ramaiyah, Sathyan, Iman Annachi, Robo sankar and Vithyu Raman are contributing better on their part to add humour in this story.

With admirable graphic works like Black Panther, single eye human and dwarfs, the talent of art director in making fort setup also entertains us finely. Camera man Natraj and Music director Devi sri Prasad have added some extra asset to the film.

It is hard to find any fault in the attempt of director Simbudevan, to make Vijay as the hero in such type of a different story and he successfully converted this movie to be attractive to children. If some thriller and stimulus have been added in this story, this ‘Puli’ might have been leaped much better.

There are some scenes and features such as Vijay’s deceitful surrender to Villain with grabbing leg of him in beginning and contemporary political dialogues could have been avoidedas these were not compatible to the story and also the image of Vijay.
