One thing that must be appreciated by the makers of ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ was that it ensured about what audiences can expect from this film. It’s an animation and not ‘Cartoon’. Yes, Superstar Rajnikanth is the biggest brand to take you for a renaissance and Soundarya Rajnikanth-KS Ravikumar emblazon the screens with this jack of box office.
Kochadaiiyaan holds a very simple tale narrated with a blend of commercial elements of action, drama, romance, friendship, betrayal and revenge. To make a precise mark, there isn’t anything on performance, even for Rajnikanth. It’s completely based on motion capture technology and it’s done in a voguish style.
The story is about the warrior of olden century, Rana (Superstar Rajnikanth) who favour his homeland Kingdom and gains the favour of his King (Nasser) by bringing back his desolated army. Sooner, he is the favourite of everyone in the empire. But the entire story takes a turn when Rana is caught red-handed for his attempts to kill the King. What unfolds next is the tale of an honourable man Kochadaiiyaan and how he is connected to this tale.
Soundarya R Ashwin as everyone says and many channels crediting her with awards prior to the release, we have our hackneyed statement. Yes, she is a genius and has created a history in Indian cinema. Moreover, the right choice of bringing her big brand father Rajnikanth into the picture opened up the film towards the major market.
Let us keep it simple. The major plus of the film is Rajnikanth. His dialogue deliveries and style captured in animation is awesome. The musical score by AR Rahman and sound by Resul Pookutty adds up to the queue of mind-boggling factors. On the flip side, it can be regarded as a special film, but the animation and performance capture is not up to the mark. Certain characters remain so much middling and there is a lack of clarity. But Soundarya puts behind these little diminishing elements and makes an impressive show with the flashback sequence.
