Aftermath the grand success of both film and album of ‘Velai Illa Pattadhaari’, Dhanush teams up with KV Anand for ‘Anegan’ that has musical score by Harris Jayaraj. The album has six tracks and Behind Frames brings you the stark and clear musical analysis.
Danga Maari Oodhari
Vocals: Dhanush, Marana Gana Viji, Naveen Madhav
Lyrics: Rokesh
As you keep listening to this song or the background sans vocals, it would clearly give a reminiscent feel of ‘Thotta Power Da’ from Thotti Jaya, Thirunalveli Alwa from Saamy and ‘Ukadutha Bumbarame’ from Arul. Nevertheless, the impression created by the vocalisms of Dhanush, Marana Gaana Viji and Naveen Madhav are worthy of appreciations. Maybe for the intonating style of singers, lyrics by Rokesh and dance by Dhanush would appeal to the audiences.
Roja Kadale
Vocals: Chinmayi, Shankar Mahadevan, Sunidhi Chauhan
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
Borrowing almost everything from AR Rahman’s Kilimanjaro (Endhiran) including singer Chinmayi and the rendering style of notes, beats – everything falls in the same way. There is nothing special to mention about this song and Harris Jayaraj gets confined to his usual style of imitating the famous hit songs.
Aathadi Aathadi
Vocals: Abhay Jodhpurkar, Bhavatharani, Dhanush, Tippu
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
The song has couple of good things to mention about. The combination of singers like Abhay Jodhpurkar, Bhavatharani, Dhanush and Tippu that comes along with a mellisonant composition of Harris Jayaraj makes it sound good. On the pars, the lyrical lines by Vairamuthu are worthy of appreciations. The song is so melodious that it acts as good sedative tranquiliser.
YOLO – (You Only Live Once)
Vocals: Eden, Ramya NSK, Richard, Shail Hada, Vickey
Lyrics: C. S. Amudhan
We’re sure you would have heard of ‘Barcadi Rum’ advertisement and the same style of rhythmic pattern has been used. The song is okay in places and the lyrics don’t get the best clarity as in previous songs. And if precisely if you are still looking out for an exact comparison of song, it is nothing but Travie McCoy: Billionaire ft. Bruno Mars.
Thodu Vaanam
Vocals: Hariharan, Shakthishree Gopalan
Lyrics: Vairamuthu
Hariharan and Shakthishree Gopalan emblazon the song with their simplistic vocalisms. Apart from all the other comparisons and replicas, this one is quite commendable in terms of composition.
Deivangal Ingae
Vocals: Sriram Parthasarathy
Lyrics: Kabilan
Finally, as the album comes to end, it has some laudable work from Harris Jayaraj. Although, there is nothing newness in musical accompaniment and chorus, the portions involving interludes, preludes and vocalising style by Sriram Parthasarathy are done with good panache.
Overall, couple of songs ‘Thodu Vaanam’ and ‘Deivangal Ingae’ alone come with new and fresh approach and rest of the songs are clearly a replication of Harris’ previous works and other music directors’ composition. Although, it’s not completely disappointing as the previous work of Harris, these couple of songs save up the skin of this album.
Verdict: Melodically good, but overall average
Rating: 2.5/5
