Velai Illa Pattadhaari Movie Review

It always becomes a special phase in an actor’s career to choose the best scripts for their 25th film as it marks the quarter century. Of course, Dhanush took a lot of time to get it done in right manner. Naturally, after watching Velai Illa Pattadhaari, we have one thing to mark the verdict – a good commercial entertainer. The basic theme of VIP is simple: Being an unemployed engineering graduate, it’s a one man’s take on setting things right with his problems and so for the others in his category.

Raghuvaran (Dhanush) leaves a pitiable life as he gains no respect in his family though pampered for not taking up any jobs since it doesn’t interest him. In spite of being a talented genuine guy, he has no good happening to him. His life gets more disastrous when his mother (Saranya Ponvannan) passes away, but some of her good deeds make things fortunate for her son. Raghuvaran is given a best job in a leading engineering firm and is assigned with a challenging project. When he embarks on his works, the undisciplined and unethical personalities from engineering world pose a threat to him and his team.

Dhanush spells an impeccable performance and in every occasion he keeps us invigorated with his entertaining performance. Be the scenes where his not-so good situations of being unemployed or the heroism bound sequences of challenging the baddies, he excels over the top. Saranya Ponvannan is the other showstopper and her part becomes the major backdrop in this drama. Samuthirakmani brings out the best emotions as a father. Vivekh with his hilarious lines and body language evokes laughter. Surabhi with her little appearance does nothing special to perform, but wins our sympathy.

Technically, it’s the scintillating background score by Anirudh that makes every scene delightful. The songs are special treat to commercial mass movie lovers, especially for Dhanush fans. Udhungada Sangu and What a Karvad are rockers in theatres and the Velai Illa Pattadhaari title track comes almost like a BGM throughout second half. It’s a coincidence with Porrur building crash and Dhanush has cleverly added it in dubbing during a conversation.

Overall, Velai Illa Pattadhaari offers an immense entertainment with a happening issue of unemployment and problems of engineering students as the backdrop.

Verdict: A compelling movie for commercial entertainer buffs
