Despite, there is no connection between Tamil cinema and discovery channel, through the movie ‘Thaarai Thappattai’ the channel enters Tamil cinema. Bala’s ‘Thaarai Thappattai’ depicts the life of Thanjavur folk (Karakattam) dancers. According to the story of this film, camera man and discovery channel’s Tamil reporter approach the famous Karakattam artist Sami for an interview.
As the artist died, they ask about Karakattam with his son Sannaasi (Sasikumar). When he explains, it expands as story. When Bala told this to the discovery channel officers, they wholeheartedly welcomed this and expressed their wish of making it as a documentary. As Bala nodded for that, now the works have been completed.
“Our channel has good appreciation in South India. We explain about the South Indian arts to the world continuously. Through ‘Thaarai Thappattai’, we are going to depict about the Karakattam also. We feel glad of joining with Bala in a noble task”, discovery’s South Indian GM Rahul Jori told.
