Oru Naal Iravil – Review

‘Shutter’ was a super hit film which was released in Malayalam in 2012. Now, its name is ‘Oru Naal Iravil’ in Tamil remake. What is the story of this film?

One fine day Sathyaraj returns his native from Singapore for a long while. By having mis undersranding with his daughter, Sathyaraj forces his daughter to drop her studies and makes an arrangement for her marriage. In the mean time One day, when he goes outside by a regular auto rickshaw, he becomes affectionate towards the call girl Anumol. Then he moves to his empty shop which is nearby to his house, accompanying Anumol with the help of auto driver Varun.

While keeping Sathyaraj and Anumol inside the shop, auto driver Varun locks the door from outside and goes to buy the tiffin for them. When he returns to the shop with tiffin in drunken condition, he undergoes arrest by the police. Here, in the shop, Anumol becomes intolerable of hungry. However, the dark slowly moves to light in this crucial juncture. Despite, the driver managed to come out of the police station next morning; he is not advantageous to go to the shop.

Though Sathyaraj is successful in shutting the mouth of Anumol by offering promise for huge amount of money, he deeply fears about that if this incident will come across to his wife and children, his image would get hurt. The tensional and nervous situation of Sathyaraj inside the closed shop is the total story. Within this, they have inducted the theme of women’s education slightly.

If we do not compare this film with Malayalam ‘Shutter’, it could be really enjoyable. Sathyaraj had proved his talent as an experienced actor in the scenes like marriage arrangement for his daughter and being dragged in the hazardous condition inside the shop.Another experienced actress Anumol had proved her perfection in this movie. Auto driver Varun is the son of Isari Ganesh. His lock for that shop is the turning point of this story. Yugi Sethu and Sathyaraj’s daughter had also played their part well. The work of camera man Prabu is perfect.

As an editor for a long time, Antony encounters the experience of being a director for the first time in this film. In Malayalam, director Joy Mathew’s effort for this film was fantastic and realistic. But, in Tamil, it did not cross the limit of remake. Hence, while comparing with Malayalam, this film does not impress us much. But, there is no doubt that this will provide thrill to the fans of Tamil.
