What happens when a man with discipline, honesty and simplicity is hated by society and transforms into a man that they would have never imagined. Vijay Antony’s Salim goes nowhere from the gripping narration as in the prequel of Naan, which was directed by Jeeva Shankar. Debutant Nirmal exhibits an apt proficiency of narrating the script in a much matured panache.
Salim is a doctor with good heart. An abrupt disadvantage for the hospital management where he works and is sooner dismissed from the service for not bringing any revenue to the hospital. Adding more to his sorrow is the girl breaking off the marriage plan few days before the event as she dislikes his decency and a man without flaws. Quite an absurdity!!! When he decides to break out the rules and lead a life of his dreams, the entire city is to unravel the most shocking truth that Salim is yet to break.
Vijay Antony has completely lived up to the expectations and tries to come up with the same mannerisms he had done in his previous instalment Naan. Although, there are no characters from Naan travelling into this sequel, he carries the same shade accompanied with the background score of few tracks from the film. Aksha Pardasany has done complete justice to the role. Director RNR Manohar as the bad politician trying to cover up truth exhibits villainism and evokes laughter in few places as well. The actor who plays the role of police officer Chezhian enthrals the audience with his dialogues and characterisation.
The first half is slightly sluggish and the actual drama beings post-intermission keeping the audiences on hook and at times moving them to edge-of-seats.
Musical score by Vijay Antony is not as much engaging as his ‘Naan’ as songs don’t look appropriate for the screenplay. But the background score gains more impact.
The last few minutes of the film takes us through a gripping and nail-biting situations and the entire team, especially Nirmal and Vijay Antony deserve abundant praises for it.
On the whole, Salim is an engaging thriller that deserves a watch and indeed offers an wholesome thriller experience for audiences.
Verdict: A thriller with toast of emotions
