Thegidi Movie Review

The mystery-thrillers aren’t much found in Tamil industry. As we had mentioned in the sneak peek of ‘Thegidi’ before couple of days, this genre of movies aren’t focused here. Thanks to P Ramesh for bringing out an intense thriller that has a gripping thriller with twists and turns having its realms here…

The film opens with Vetri (Ashok Selvan), an M.A. graduate in criminology getting a job at private detective agency. Everything sounds perfect for this chap and he does make an impressive show here. But as the time proceeds, his nerves are wracked with an intense mystery as the persons whom he had followed and gained reports are mysteriously killed. Next on the list is his girlfriend (Janani Iyer). Will he able to save his sweetheart? Why these people are being killed and what connects them in common? Watch out for the rest on screens that is laced with a lot of thrill and suspense elements.

Ashok Selvan seems to be improvising a lot on his performance gradually. He seems to have gotten in the script and characterisation with his complete focus. Be the romantic scenes or situational crisis moments, he just takes off with an ease. Janani Iyer seems to have shed down some weight and has done her show with panache. Jayaprakash and perfection – the synonyms that are inseparable and yes, he is someone who can create magic effortlessly.

What works best results for ‘Thegidi’ is its duration. The director has clearly understood the need of hour and has generated a perfect ambience to enhance the thrill moments. The film travels on the Hollywood pattern of Act 1,2 & 3. The film would have been nice even if there was no intermission. Such is the narrative style of Ramesh.

The musical score by Nivas offers more impact and the inclusion of songs as montage is a decent decision to keep the audience intact with the script. Yes, it would have been nice if songs were not included, but it’s ‘TRADE’ at the end of day and we cannot boisterously ask much alike the fake world cinema buffs to make an Iranian kind of movie. The cinematography is of top-notch quality.

There are loose moments in the script and the logic goes missing. The proper structuring of a detective isn’t showcased to the right touch. Well, in spite of such little drawbacks in the film, ‘Thegidi’ still engrosses you with the presentation and that’s a neat work by entire team.

Verdict: A taut thriller with gripping moments.
