KATHUKUTTI – REVIEW

337

We can generously refer this movie to be placed in the list of good and worthy films as it raises its voice for the safeguard of agriculture.

Following the completion of his education in agriculture, Naren pursues his career in the same field in his village. He vehemently opposes the real estate brokers and the persons who are coming to the village with the aim of examining the land for methane project.

Meanwhile, Jeyaraj who has been known as a genuine person in politics for 4 decades looks for an MLA seat from his party while holding some insignificant designations. He is the father of Naren. But he was denied of his age and the chance goes to his son Naren.

In rival team who belong to opposite party, the scene is different. Sitting MLA Gnanavel is also being denied seat by his party due to his age as the opportunity landing onthe soil of a youth who is the son of Gnanavel’s own party rival. But, there is no chance for the baffled Gnanavel except to put his effort for winning his side. He makes use of his political intelligent and could ably to put voters against Naren. Who would be the victor? – see movie.

It is a new avatar for Naren in expressing aggressiveness as well as amusiveness simultaneously. His character gets enrichment when he is determining to save the land for agriculture. His merriment activity with Suri throughout the film is admirable.

The heroine Shrishti Dange who has beauty and compassion even towards ants is very attractive to the audience. She also proves herself as a social well-wisher by agitating against the cellphone tower which is to be installed in the village. She also yields the appreciation from the audience while encouraging hero without believing the rumor that her father had committed suicide due to their(Naren-Shrishti Dange) love affair.

Soori has been given importance as equal as Naren and takes responsibility to entertain audience through merriment. Waiting for food in Naren’s house and getting beat from police are some of the important scenes in which Soori has proved himself well and forcing us to think that he is the substitute hero.

The role of sitting MLA Gnanavel, who has also been assigned with district secretary post impressesus lot through his performance. The genuine politician Jeyaraj (father of Naren) also proved himself convincingly with various dimensions. Heroine’s father Raja who has sacrificed his life to resist the methane project and Naren’s mother Thulasi are other pleasing characters in this film.

Music director Aruldevhas tried to represent his music to rural area. Camera man SanthoshSriram also has attempted his level best to depict the beauty of Thanjavur area and the aftermath scenarios if the methane project would be implemented in future.

The debut director R.Saravan is absolutely liable to our acclamation for his effort in making film on the basis of a vital issue of our state. He also has concentrated on humor while dealing with such type of a serious subject. It is tiresome to see the intensive political aspects all over the movie from the intermission to the end.
