Director RajuMurugan tried to explain about how politics played the spoil part in a simple men’s life. He already drew our attention in his film ‘Kukkoo’. As his next movie is inclined towards political satire, it naturally draws our attention.
The person MannarMannan of Paappireddypatti is calling himself as the President and he makes trouble for government officials in the name of his struggle for public. He is being assisted by the old man and a young widow.
Officials file case against him to show their power. Who is this MannarMannan? Why he is calling himself as the President? Would he emerge as successful after facing so many hurdles from government hierarchy? That is climax.
We can appreciate the performance of MannarMannan (Guru Somasundaram) from the very first scene when we see his activity by fixing a big white umbrella with his bike (old TVS 50). Though he appears sometimes as a joker, as he steps forward to oppose the social evils, he not only makes us laugh but also to think. The reason (OruKaathalumoruKazhipparaiyum) behind made his as the president is an emotional and effective one.
RamyaPandiyan is very fit to her role. She represents the women who are adamant in their decision to marry the men who have the toilet facility in their home. She rejects Guru Somasundaram earlier, but later, gradually she turns her attention towards him and falls in love.
We can see the persons like Ramasamy and Gayathri Krishnan who assist Somasundaram in his venture, in today’s Tamil Villages. Other characters of this movie are also boosting the story of this movie.
Shan Roldan’s music is effective. We can hear and watch the song ‘Ennanga Sir UngaSattam’ for many more times. Its concept is wonderful. Camera man Chezhiyan’s camera bears the all feelings of the characters throughout the movie.
Director RajuMurugan deals the subject which is depicting their everyday life struggle, in subtle manner. His dialogues also add strength to the film. The dialogues attack all parties like ruled party, ruling party and aspiring party without any prejudice.
The corruption and politics behind the building of toilet is today’s pathetic situation. The downtrodden often having misconception about their messiahs in the long history. This movie also reflects that history. Though there are some flaws in story making and scenes, we need not mind it as the concept is very effective.
The movie ‘Joker’ should be watched by everyone who goes polling booth every five years without failing.
