We know that Bala had directed the film ‘Thaarai Thappattai’ in which Sasikumar and Varalakshmi Sarathkumar have acted as male and female leads respectively. Sasikumar is producer of this film too. In this movie, Sasikumar bears the role of Nathaswaram artist and Varalakshmi as Karakattam (Tamil traditional dance) dancer.
It is said that the story of this film resembles the movies of ‘Thillaana Mohanaambaal’ and ‘Karakaattakkaaran’. This film was sent to the sensor board. After watching the film, the members of sensor board asserted of providing only ‘A’ certificate as this movie has abundant violent scenes.
They also added that if some particular scenes would be removed, it will deserve to get ‘UA’ certificate. But, if they even get ‘UA’ certificate, they can not avail the tax free privilege for this film. So, Bala was not ready to remove those scenes. Hence, ‘Thaarai Thappattai’ appears on screen with ‘A’ certificate.
