Oru Oorla Rendu Raja Movie Review

Time and again, filmmakers strongly believe that commercial films with good messages would surely come up with winning notes. No wrong! Filmmakers have proved of this theory and director Kannan has tried to accomplish with the same formulae. Oru Oorla Rendu Raja produced by Michael Rayappan and directed by Kannan stars Vemal, Priya Anand and Soori in lead roles with Vishaka Singh in an important character.

The film has a stark theme of Vemal and Soori playing the freewheeling guys, who are friends right from their childhood. When Vemal falls in love with Priya Anand, a doctor while travelling in train, both the friends continues their journey. But during the process of trying to impress Priya, Vemal along with his friend Soori discovers the real intention of their lives.

When we tend to hear this story, it makes more sense, but there isn’t anything that is going to keep you engrossed throughout the film. Yes, Kannan deserves special appreciation for taking up a good theme of cause, but it holds only miniscule importance in the film and impresses you only in few parts. On the performance level, Vemal does a mediocre show and exhibits the same stereotypical style of performance, but his looks that have come across changes are good improvements. Soori evokes laughter and it turns out to be one of the major highlights in the film. Priya Anand balances between her performances and showcasing glamour in songs. Vishaka Singh appears in the flashback sequence with a song and deplorable scenario of her culmination. Yes, she needs some special mention and does her part well. Nasser as usual does justice to his role. Thambi Ramaiah is just okay.

The first half of this film employs good emphasis on entertainment with humorous portions and colorful songs, but soon after intermission, there is some drop in momentum and director Kannan gets away from what he actually wants to depict in his film.

Musical score by D Imman is okay and cinematography by P.G. Muthaiah is the greatest asset to this film. However, the background score could have been better. When the theme of this film is appreciable, things drop down slightly disappointing with the narrative skill of Kannan.

Overall, Oru Oorla Rendu Raja is just an average show, which could have been presented well with some interesting storytelling methodology.

Verdict: Quite okay, but not really impressive.
