The movie ‘Tharkaappu’ brings the fake encounters and the politics hidden behind those illegitimate acts in to the light.

The 3 friends including Sakthivel and Vasu are working in a police department and popularly known as encounter specialists. Once they receive the order from their higher authority, without any enquiry or hesitation they carry out encounter against the alleged persons. But, when they use encounter on Rowdy Riyaskhan, it is found by human rights commission officer Samudhrakani as a fake.

Samudhrakani drags this issue to the court and successfully entraps the politician and industrialists who were behind this crime. They could not lie in the court. Ultimately, the higher officials and politician intend to kill that encounter team (Samudhrakani & co) under the banner of perpetrators. Who emerged as successful? Justice or Fate?

Director R.P.Ravi has taken the fake encounter issue and tried to expose the hidden aspects behind this. Despite, Sakthivel Vasu’s performance looks ordinary at the beginning, later, he proves his perfection. Samudhrakani did not make any mistake in the role of Human rights commission officer.

Meanwhile, the director brings the lovers and illustrates their struggle and finally he made them victims in the fake encounter. The lovers earn our sympathy in climax. Camera man Jones Anand and Music director Pysal successfully keep us in an encounter mood all over the film.

But, it is inevitable to raise some questions on this film. Can police officials plan encounter on their colleagues? At the same time, to explain the fact about the innocents who often become victims in fake encounters, they keep the presence of two loving couples for the whole film unnecessarily.

Anyway, this film is deserved to be appreciable as it discloses the truths hidden behind the encounters.
