Box office miracle – How low budget movies beat Khan and Kapoor movies..?

Bollywood holds a prominent position in the Indian film fraternity and captures the global market at an ease. So far, only Khan and Kapoor movies have been making a huge mark in the industry, but this year seems to have taken the trade analysts by surprise. While Salman Khan’s ‘Jai Ho’ has been just an average fare, the low budget movies have taken a front seat and we bring you an exclusive look on the budget and collections earned through these films.

Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Highway’ that stars Randeep Hooda and Alia Bhatt in lead roles was produced at a budget of Rs. 18.25 Crore and the collections have gone up to Rs. 27.25 Crore.

Yaariyan had a budget of Rs. 19 Crore and has seen a collection of Rs. 40 Crore followed by Kangna Ranaut’s Queen that was released before a couple of weeks. The film had a budget somewhere between 16-17 Crore and has made a stunning collection of Rs. 48 Crore and is still running successfully.

Ragini MMS 2 is no wonder and the presence of Sunny Leone grabbed more crowds into the theatres. Well, it’s not just her factor, but the new-fangled narration and gripping elements that made it more appealing. Produced at a cost of somewhere around 12-14 Crore, the film has made 33 Crore and is still running with house-packed shows.

There are three reasons according to the trade analysts and film critics as they speak on these films’ success. The first one is that Bollywood always welcomes female-centric films with good themes and engrossing narration. Secondly, the songs turned to be a major factor in adding more Midas-touch. Say for instance, Highway had musical score by AR Rahman and almost all the songs were Chartbusters that drew many into the theatres. It is worth mentioning that even Aashiqui 2 had met the same results for becoming more hit for the songs, especially ‘Tum Hi Ho’. Finally, it’s a season of where no big stars have their films releases. While Shahrukh Khan’s Chennai Express had hit screens last year, Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 came out for Christmas followed by ‘Jai Ho’ in January 2014. So, the next outing from these big kings is expected to happen only after few months from now. This factor should have as well influenced the result of these movies in box office.
