Veteran playback singer S.Janaki has announced her retirement from singing. Hereafter she will neither sing in cinema nor in programs. She had been singing in 17 languages like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannadam and Hindi for the past 50 years. The total number of her songs touches more than 45,000.
She started her journey as a singer in 1957 and was honored with 4 national awards and 32 state awards. Indian government announced Padma Pushan for her in 2013. But she denied that award for much delayed honor.
At this juncture, she has announced her retirement. According to her words, “I just finished off my music journey 4 months back. I sang a song with the music of Mithun in Malayalam at last. I have been singing songs in various Indian languages. Now, I feel and experience satisfaction in my profession.
Now, I turned to my 78th year. I want to give space for other youngsters. I got chances even after my retirement announcement. I have sung wonderful songs in various languages. Though I do not sing; my fans are still hearing my songs” she expressed.
