Certain remakes are obtained with the ethnic flavour, while others fail to accomplish with the original taste. With a lot of remake fever happening in Indian film industry, Malayalam film industry seems to be the source of inspiration for many other regional filmmakers. While there are lots of remakes happening in Tamil from God’s own country, here is one more adding to the list. The original version ’22 Female Kottayam’ that starred Riima Kallingal and Fahadh Faasil in lead role was quite a ‘lump in throat’ entertainer that left the audiences, especially the male centric audiences in shock for its climax. In fact, it had a strong message to the audiences amidst the era that is bound to much harassment on female groups (Ex – Nirbhaya case that has been diminishing over the time period).
Veteran actress Sripriya who always stands for women empowerment and rights has now commenced her directorial venture with this film titled ‘Malini 22 Palayamkottai’. The film brings newcomer Naresh and Nithya Menon in lead roles, which was originally essayed by Fahadh Faasil and Nithya Menon in lead characters.
Let’s have a look on what’s going to work out and what not for this film, which is scheduled for release on this Friday (January 24).
PLUS
What’s going to work at its best for this film is the unique story that has unpredictable twists and turns in the film. The film has a lot of entertainment quotient that includes romance and comedy. But as the story proceeds to the second hour, there is a surprise element, let’s say a shocking one indeed. The film is directed by a great personality like Sri Priya and therefore, she must have very well focused on the betterment of this script.
MINUS
The star-cast is not so familiar and hence the crowd pulling factor might be less. Nithya Menon is just 2-film old in Kollywood (Nootrenbadhu and Veppam). However, she has a huge market in Mollywood for some of her best hits. The lead actor of this film, Naresh is handsome, but he is yet again another newcomer. The others in the star-cast are not so familiar. The songs are not so familiar when compared to other releases in this month. The Malayalam version had a powerful casting of Fahadh Faasil, Riima Kallingal and Prathap Pothan. It was a neat drama, but the kind of editing cuts and projection of actors we find here are little artificial.
