This summers seems to be bestowing the audience with lots of treat based on different genres and this one ‘Poovarasam PeePee’ seems to be a special one. The film is directed by short filmmaker Halitha Shameem and is produced by Manoj Paramahamsa in collaboration with Dr. Sujatha Chenthilnathan and the musical score is by Arul Dev.
Shedding light on this film, Halitha Shameem says that the story is not set in backdrops of a village, but a countryside. The reason behind such differentiation is that when we speak about a village, it denotes the particular lifestyle, the cultural ethnicity and lots of such factors are involved. Whereas the term ‘Countryside’ can be related to anywhere on the maps… It is a coming-of-age adventure of three boys whose life takes a turn facing a bizarre encounter.
Speaking on the significance of this film, director Halitha Shameem says that the adventures of urban kids are confined to the idiot box and PSP games, but in contrast, the village side a lot of stories to tell that many from the previous generation would have experience. It includes some beautiful things like playing with paper cameras, flying kites, swimming and so on. “We have tried implementing such adventures into the movies as a summer treat to the kids.”
Cinematographer Manoj Paramahamsa, the man behind the magical visuals of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya has handled cinematography and produced it as well. Sharing his experience on the birth of this film, he says, “Don’t assume me to be a typical producer of signing check papers and vouchers, but a maker of turning dream on script paper into reality. I used the remuneration earned from other films for the production of this film. When we decided to shoot this film after the completion of script, we wanted to audition young kids for this film and opted local cable channels with a scrolling ad. In fact, there was a huge response and we finalised the best ones.”
The film is scheduled for release shortly and is expected to be a special treat for this summer.
