‘Maruthanayagam’ is Kamal Hasan’s dream project. It is based upon the story of brave man (soldier) Maruthanayagam who lived in the 18th century Tamil Nadu. In 1997, Kamal held the inauguration function of this film in a grand manner by inviting England’s queen Elizabeth II.
But, later, he dropped the project (shooting of the film) temporarily as so many problems (mainly finance) took place. But, in the program ‘Illaiyaraja Aayiram’, Kamal Hasan and Illaiyaraja composed one of the songs of ‘Maruthanayagam’ movie in the stage itself and made the audience delighted.
Kamal accompanied Illaiyaraja in singing the song. They re-telecasted with ‘Maruthanayagam’ scenes. Despite, they revealed the song; they did not divulge any detail regarding the release of the film. But, Kamal and Illaiyaraja only assured about the film’s presence in future. Hence, the fans start to expect about the film eagerly.
