The most gorgeous rivals of the 90s – Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla are all set to emblazon the screens in Gulaab Gang. There were times, when these icons never came worked together incisively due to some issues. And how did their friendship bloom after years? “Thanks to filmmaker Soumik Sen,” says Juhi as she continues to add, “Just before we started to shoot the film, Soumik brought us together and left us in room. After a while, the ice gradually got broken and we started to chat casually.”
Set in backdrops of Bundelkhand in Uttar Pradesh, the film is about the women in pink coloured saris involved in a vigorous mission of combating social evils. While Madhuri plays Rajjo, leader of this gang, Juhi will be enacting the negative role of a politician.
Madhuri highly in awe of Juhi confesses utters, “Juhi is the sweetest villain ever seen in the films. Her Meethi Baatein and cool stuffs will enthrall you vividly.” On her turn, Juhi feels elated for having done a negative role and there would be no comparisons to draw between both of them.
Juhi completely restricts herself from delineating her role, but instead throws more light on the Gulaab Gang saying, “The film has a strong message for the girls to educate and empower them. I believe, this will reduce the rate of violence and harassments on them to a great extent.” Getting on about her patch-up with Madhuri Dixit, she expressed, “before few years, there came upon a moment for me to work with Madhuri, but I rejected the offer feeling there would be a lot of comparisons. But this time, I took up this offer precisely because of her.”
Madhuri further clarifies that both of them have a substantial role to perform and their characters are uniquely sketched. “Well, there is no BATMAN without a JOKER and so are our roles in this film.”
“I enjoyed shooting for the action sequences. All of us performed them without any dupes. All that I could afford to perform well was a little training that I underwent,” sums up Madhuri.
The film has an ensemble star-cast of Tannishtha Chatterjee, Divya Jagdale,Priyanka Bose, Lata S. Singh, Vinitha Menon, Rani Patel and Tanvi Rao. Initially Tabu was approached to play the lead role, but the makers couldn’t sign her due to some issues. Later on, their efforts to rope her in for the role now played by Juhi Chawla also went in vain.
